Mid September, complete with all its confused feeling weather, seems a perfect time to finally share Shifting Seasons.

Shifting Seasons is a cycle of five songs, comprising of settings of texts by women writers. Like each season, each text has its own pace and feeling, reflected in the music.

From the examination of all-renewing rain and an accompaniment of pianoesque raindrops to the resolve of biding your time and battling through bitter rain and snow, there are moments for each season in this set of five. They can be performed in any combination and any order – either as solo works or paired with others in the cycle.

There Will Come Soft Rains – Sara Teasdale
The Autumn – Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Winter – Louisa May Alcott
A Dream of Spring – Marietta Holley
What Makes The Summer? – Marietta Holley

The cycle was written across 2024 and 2025 and is approximately 12 minutes in length. The creation of this cycle was generously supported by the Vaughan Williams Foundation.
