Originally composed to feature in a watery themed concert, this pair of pieces features a combination of well known folk and children’s songs about streams, rivers and oceans. Calm Seas is a gentle meander around some familiar folk tunes, featuring My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean, Skye Boat Song, The Waters of Tyne and Cockles and Mussels. Stormy Seas is a contemporary take on Drunken Sailor, with a couple of fleeting references to other sea-related songs. Dynamics and tempi markings are suggestions only.
Calm Seas // Stormy Seas was written for Sing Papworth in 2025. Calm Seas is approximately 4 minutes in length while Stormy Seas is around 2’15” in length. They can be performed individually or as a pair.
